Gold Extraction Glossary

This glossary defines the topic terms used across this site in general terms, so that a reader can check what a word means here before using it in an inquiry.

Terms for stages and processes

Dressing means, on this site, the treatment of ore that prepares it for the recovery of gold, and it is the stage at which the JINCHAN agent is positioned. Beneficiation means the concentration and preparation of ore, a neighbouring term that overlaps with dressing and is often used for the wider preparation idea. Extraction means the recovery of gold from prepared material, and it is the stage that follows preparation. Metallurgy means the wider treatment of metals, within which dressing, beneficiation, and extraction all sit as parts.

A reader who needs a definition for a particular ore should treat these general definitions as a starting point, and should ask, in an inquiry, how the term applies to the ore and step actually being considered, rather than reading a particular answer out of a general definition.

Terms for products and categories

A dressing agent means, on this site, an agent used at the dressing stage, and the JINCHAN metallic ore dressing agent is the single line presented under that term. A leaching agent means an agent discussed in connection with leaching, a topic covered by the selection guide, and the term is used there as a topic name rather than as a second line. Gold extraction chemicals means the class of chemicals used in gold extraction, and gold mining chemicals means the wider category name for chemicals in gold mining work; neither term, on this site, names a catalogue of further agents.

A category name is a heading under which topics are grouped, not a product line, a division, or a customer segment. Business range names from the MIC showroom, such as chemicals, metallurgy, mineral and energy, and service, are used on this site only as category names in that sense. A reader who treats a category name as a product line will expect specifications that this site does not publish, and will be disappointed for a reason that has nothing to do with the agent itself.

Terms for inquiries and documents

An inquiry means, on this site, a message that names the ore, the process step, and the question, and asks what information is needed next. A checklist means a list of such questions in an order that keeps the particulars first, and it is provided on the checklist pages for copying into a message. A certificate, on this site, means a document that is available upon request, with no number, issuing body, coverage, or validity period published here, and a request for a certificate should name the purpose for which it is needed.

A company self-statement means a statement presented as the company's own positioning, attributed to the company profile, and not presented as an independently verified finding. A reader who keeps that boundary in mind will read every other page on this site correctly.

Glossaries that stay general

A glossary stays general when its definitions describe how words are used on a site, rather than claiming how things behave in the world. For a particular ore, name the ore and the step in the inquiry, and ask what applies to that case. Its definitions tell a reader what dressing, beneficiation, extraction, and metallurgy mean in the language of this site, and they do not tell a reader what will happen for a particular ore. That limit is intentional, because a glossary that claimed particular outcomes would need evidence for each claim, and no such evidence is published here for particular ores.

A general glossary is still useful, because it prevents the commonest kind of misunderstanding, which is to use the same word for different stages. A reader who checks a word here before using it in an inquiry will use it consistently with the rest of the site, and a reply that uses the word differently can then be queried on that difference. Consistency of language, maintained by a glossary, is a modest benefit, but it is a real one, and it compounds over a long correspondence.

To ask about this page, use the inquiry form to name the ore, the process step, and the question, and ask what information is needed next.
